Facing important challenges



In Budapest, leaders of governments of the Visegrad Group discussed how to stop migration crisis. -It shows how dangerous it is to evoke artificial migration tensions – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki says.



-We need to support countries, which are a potential reservoir of great migration. We won’t let the Polish border, and at the same time the external EU border, be forced by illegal immigrants. We focus on protection of this border. These are efforts taken by Poland – Polish government announces.


Second important challenge that the Three Seas Initiative countries have to face are energy issues, i.e. security of gas and oil delivery.


-It is enough to look at the data concerning gas import. In 2016, 90% of gas came from eastern import. Today, we are in a totally different position. Thanks to consequent actions of the government, now about 60 % of gas comes from East. We may say that we are not only secured in terms of energy, but we could also share this energy security with others – says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for States Assets Jacek Sasin.


PKN Orlen has already confirmed the investment in Lithuania. As early as this year, construction of the installation for deep oil processing in Mažeikiai is to start.


-The refinery in Mažeikiai is now the biggest and one of its type company in the area of the Baltic states. It is of huge importance for the whole economy and energy security of both Lithuania and all the member states of this region. The biggest investment in the history of Lithuania carried out by Orlen will additionally strengthen this security. I had a chance to talk about this issue with the President of Lithuania when I paid a visit in Mažeikiai – Sasin explains.


The extension of the refinery in Mažeikiai will be co-financed by the government of Lithuania. This is the effect of cooperation within the Three Seas Initiative, Poland and Lithuania are members of.
