Low Emission Technology as a Challenge for the Three Seas Region
30 June 2021
The introduction of low emission technologies within the next couple of years will pose a big challenge for the EU countries. The European Investment Bank has been entrusted with the task of helping EU member states in their transformation towards low emissions economy. In order to achieve climate objectives, building a uniform European energy market with much greater capabilities of transmitting energy among particular countries is necessary. Looking from the perspective of the Three Seas Region, attaining climate-related aims may involve higher costs of construction of standard infrastructure, e.g. roads. The vital question is how traditional economy sectors of the Three Seas Region (automotive, chemical and construction industry) are going to adjust to the introduction of low-emission technology. Is the shift going to affect their further presence in the Region? So far even German automotive companies, enjoying a strong position on the global market, do not find it easy to introduce the technology of profitable production of electric cars. Therefore, low emission technology is definitely going to be a challenge for the Three Seas region.
