Shorter validation of Covid passport?

The European Commission will recommend shorter 9-month validation period of Covid passports applied for travelling. The EC is also to propose priority treatment of the vaccinated travellers – say documents Bloomberg agency has had access to.

The European Commission is to propose the member states to continue accepting all the travellers vaccinated with the serums approved in the European Union, and from 10th January 2022 to be open also to those travellers vaccinated with the vaccines approved by the World Health Organisation.

At present, the validity of the Covid passport depends on what base it was issued. In the case of the vaccinated persons, the validity of this document starts on the 14th day after receiving the last dose of vaccine and it lasts 365 days from the day of administering the last dose. The changes proposed by the EU introduce a new validity period for the first series of vaccinations. This period is to be shortened to 9 months, which aims to arouse interest in the 3rd dose of vaccinations against Covid-19.

Prof. Andrzej Horban, Prime Minister’s advisor for Covid-19, has already announced that if people do not vaccinate in the districts where the number of infections is high, significant restrictions will have to be introduced. Prof. Horban highlighted that the restrictions may cover even 20% of the country. (source: Bloomberg)
