Meeting “Poland. The Strength of the Three Seas Initiative in the G20”
I want the voice of the entire Three Seas region to be heard at the G20 Summit in Miami this December, emphasized President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki during a meeting with Polish and international entrepreneurs from the Three Seas region entitled “Poland. The Strength of the Three Seas in the G20″.
Poland’s participation in the work of the G20 is an opportunity to change this state of affairs – not only on behalf of Poland, but also in the interest of the entire region, he stressed.
President Karol Nawrocki noted that since the early 1990s, the countries of the Three Seas region have evolved from the economic periphery of Europe into one of its most dynamic centers of growth. – We have attracted capital, modernized our infrastructure, built a modern industrial base, and integrated ourselves into global value chains while preserving our own identity. Most importantly, we have succeeded in rejecting the legacy of communism imposed upon us by force and overcoming the consequences of the flawed post-war geopolitical order in Europe,” he stated.
Today the countries of the Three Seas region are increasingly developing their own technologies and brands, investing abroad, and exporting not only goods but also services, knowledge, and capital. The transition from being a recipient of capital to becoming a co-creator of capital can be observed across the entire region, although each country contributes its own unique experience and competitive advantages to this process,” he emphasized.
He argued that the Three Seas region is no longer merely an attractive destination for investment but is becoming a space where technologies, brands, and ventures capable of competing on global markets are created.
As a mature economic entity, the Three Seas region remains open to cooperation with both foreign and domestic capital. Maturity means the ability to build long-term partnerships in which investors contribute to the development of local suppliers, research activities, workforce skills, and establish a lasting commitment to the host country – he said.
The region that for years served as a venue for the implementation of other nations’ projects is becoming their architect, investor, and, above all, owner,” President Nawrocki underlined.
The President emphasized that Poland is an important part of this history. – Our success was not the achievement of a single group or a single mechanism. It was built on the entrepreneurship and hard work of the Polish people, openness to trade and investment, the development of local self-government, infrastructure and education, membership in the European community and NATO, and the state’s ability to correct the shortcomings of the transformation period. It would also not have been possible without the fight against corruption,” he observed.
President Nawrocki pointed out that while the state should create conditions conducive to economic activity, it must also ensure that the benefits of growth do not accrue exclusively to the strongest. For this reason, he added, social transfers as well as investments in public services and family security have become important elements of Poland’s development model.
The President outlined three constructive proposals that Poland intends to bring to the G20 agenda. We are identifying areas of cooperation in which the experiences of Poland and the Three Seas countries may prove valuable to partners representing diverse development paths across Africa, Asia, and Latin America,” he said.
- The first is the economy, investments, and resilience based on the ‘FDI plus’ model that is, foreign direct investment measured not only by the amount of capital but also by technology transfer, the involvement of local suppliers, the creation of research and development centers, and retaining a larger share of added value in the host country,” he said.
- The second proposal concerns demographic issues, including population ageing, talent outflows, and changes in labor markets. The President pointed out that Europe, Poland, and most G20 countries are experiencing a sharp increase in childlessness. – We must therefore counter trends that diminish the social importance of the family and discourage young people from starting families,” he stressed. I believe that Poland can send a clear message that responsibility, parenthood, and a willingness to build the future for coming generations remain values upon which a strong state and a healthy society are founded,” he added.
- The third proposal draws on Poland’s experience in building energy security. President Nawrocki observed that resilience requires diversified sources and routes of supply, cross-border infrastructure, and the avoidance of dangerous dependence on a single supplier. The energy transition should be ambitious, but it must also take into account the structure of each country’s economy, its resources, and its social capacities,” he assessed
These proposals are also intended to open a new chapter in cooperation with developing countries and emerging powers represented within the G20 – Karol Nawrocki noted.
We propose a partnership of equals, based on mutual benefit, respect for local conditions, and the creation of value at the local level,” President emphasized. He assured that Poland can offer valuable experience in economic transformation, institution-building, digitalization, public service delivery, SME development, and infrastructure modernization.
He also noted that partners from Africa, Asia, and Latin America possess young populations, expanding markets, abundant resources, and growing innovative potential, while the Three Seas region offers access to the European market, a strong industrial base, a highly skilled workforce, and extensive experience in rapid modernization.
President Nawrocki announced that in the coming weeks he would have the opportunity to discuss these proposals with G20 leaders during the session of the United Nations General Assembly, as well as during planned visits to Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. He added that Polish entrepreneurs would accompany him as part of the Presidential Business Deck Initiative.
When Poland speaks at the G20 Summit, I want it to speak not only on its own behalf. I want it to bring to that forum the experience, ambitions, and expectations of the entire Three Seas region, while presenting our G20 partners with a concrete offer for shared development. Together, we have built our prosperity; now let us ensure that our common voice is heard,” the President of the Republic of Poland concluded.
